The Placentia Fiber network is being built using technology called microtrenching, the fiber cables are being installed from the community infrastructure into client’s homes. Microtrenching is a really fast and efficient way of installing fiber with little disruption.

  • Are you building on my property?

The GigabitNow Placentia network is being constructed on properties with established easements and on the side of city streets. No building will take place on residential property unless you order service.

  • How loud will construction be?

  • What is GigabitNow Placentia Fiber Internet?

GigabitNow fiber technology offers fast, reliable Internet connectivity to residential and business customers. Unlike cable Internet, our connection does not limit you. There is no boosting, no throttling, no bandwidth caps on speed, sites you visit, or protocols used by your connection — just fast fiber Internet! Fiber technology is state-of-the-art and can scale to higher speeds allowing for more capabilities. Letting you do more and do it faster! Fiber Internet allows for better telecommuting, business startups, health services and educational learning.

  • What is symmetrical Internet?

A symmetrical connection is a 500 Mbps/500 Mbps Internet connection, which means you get 500 Mbps download AND upload speeds. Most Internet service providers, like the telecommunication companies, deliver asymmetrical Internet. They throttle upload speeds, slowing outgoing traffic to only a small percentage of your download speed. You may be able to download movies at 100 Mbps, but your cloud backups can only go to 10 Mbps. GigabitNow customers receive symmetrical Internet speeds. So, instead of other companies, providing 50 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up, we provide the same speeds up and down.

  • Will there be monitoring devices or smart meters installed?

The modem device is the only powered piece of equipment that will be installed on your property. The city of Placentia is using the network for some Smart City technologies but nothing is planned at residential locations at this time.

  • Isn’t Wireless the latest technology? Why wouldn’t we use wireless?

Wireless and fiber are both fast evolving, popular technologies for distributing broadband. Fiber, however, has many advantages over wireless. Fiber can be routed to guarantee service at every home and business. Fiber is laid in-ground and is the most future-proof solution with a capacity well in excess of current and anticipated demand.

  • Who is responsible for repairing and maintaining the fiber?

It is the responsibility of SiFi Networks to maintain and repair the fiber cable to the property line to each residence. However, if the cable is damaged on the homeowner’s property, then the homeowner is responsible for promptly paying for the cost of such repair by GigabitNow Placentia unless the damage to the cable is on the homeowner’s property was due to negligence or willful misconduct of GigabitNow Placentia.

  • Does GigabitNow use laser light?

Yes, GigabitNow uses Laser light to transmit data. If you are required to move or troubleshoot with the gateway device, please be aware of the presence of laser light. If you look directly into the laser light it can cause serious eye damage. If you see that the fiber is not connected and you observe the presence of laser light, contact GigabitNow immediately.

Warning: The fiber cable is extremely fragile, please do not attempt to touch or remove this cable. Repairs for any damage to this cable will be billed to the homeowner.

  • What is “Ethical Personal Data Privacy”?

Ethical Personal Data Privacy is GigabitNow’s position on your rights as a customer and your Internet connection. GigabitNow has always worked and will continue to work to keep our network free of arbitrary constraints and will keep your data and usage habits private. We will never sell or share your personal information, data usage, or impose limits on you as a customer. We continually work to find more and better ways to connect our customers to the content they want. The Internet was designed to be free and open, not controlled by monopolistic gatekeepers.

  • What is “net neutrality”?

Net neutrality regulations were enacted to protect the public access to an open and fair Internet. The protections made it illegal for Internet Service Providers (ISP) to put “throttles” on certain websites (make them faster or slower), or make the public pay more to access non-preferred websites. Those protections were recently repealed by the federal government. You can read more about our position on the IsoFusion Blog.

  • Why is net neutrality important?

Net neutrality is important because it helps keep the Internet open and equal — you could view what you want, when you want, on any provider (Netflix, Showtime, Hulu, etc.) you prefer. Without net neutrality, Internet content providers could legally become “gatekeepers” choosing to speed or slow certain content, or charging fees for access.

  • What is really going on with “net neutrality”?

This is largely a battle between large Internet content providers such as Spectrum, AT&T, Verizon and others. Some, but not all, of these companies don’t want to be regulated by the government. Many have publicly stated that there are no plans to change existing public access policies to the Internet, but to some providers the regulations were restrictive. However, without the net neutrality regulations in place, no one really knows what these large content providers might do in the future.

  • How does this affect GigabitNow Placentia?

This does not affect GigabitNow Placentia. We do not generate Internet content — we are only providing the mechanism through which the Internet is provided to subscribers. In doing so, GigabitNow is dedicated to the goal of providing the benefits of an open Internet to everyone while keeping the Internet free from corporate interference. More details regarding privacy and neutrality policies of our ISP can be found on the IsoFusion Blog. We urge all GigabitNow Placentia subscribers to read this statement.

  • Should I use a surge protector with my gateway?

We strongly recommend the use of a surge protector with any expensive electronics that you may own, including your gateway. A surge protector will help protect the gateway and extend its service life span.

  • I’m pre-registered, what’s next?

Next step, you will receive a reminder from GigabitNow to setup your account and payment method along with receiving details on your selected speed plan, additional equipment and optional services.

  • Who will answer my technical support questions?

GigabitNow Technical Support Staff (1-888-556-9712 or support@gigabitnow.com)

  • What is the length of contract for service?

GigabitNow Telephone is a month-to-month service without a long-term contract. You can cancel anytime.

  • Can I use my existing phones?

Yes, we recommend using a cordless phone system with the main base station plugged into your analog telephone adapter (ATA). This will allow for additional cordless phone stations to be placed through your home for ease of use.

  • Can I keep my existing phone number?

In most cases you can keep your existing phone number. You will need to complete a request to transfer your existing number to your GigabitNow Telephone service. There is a one-time fee for the transfer of the number. You will be assigned a temporary number for the time it takes to get your existing number transferred. Transfer time depends on the detailed information in the form that you submit and how quickly your existing carrier completes the release of that number. Some regions in the United States have their numbers “locked” by the current phone service provider. These areas are limited but do exist and limit transfer options. If this is the case your number may not be able to be transferred to GigabitNow Telephone. Check with your current provider to determine if this is the case.

  • How are calls rounded for long distance charges?

All calls are rounded to the nearest six second increment. This includes all US 48, Canada, and toll-free calls. International destinations are rounded in thirty-second increments, or full minute intervals depending upon that country’s policies.

  • Will GigabitNow Telephone work with my home’s security system?

Home security systems are complex and may have problems working with a variety of alternative telephone systems. GigabitNow is a VoIP based service and these systems typically need a classic physical telephone line to function as expected. Please check with your security system provider for details on what needs to be in place when you activate GigabitNow Telephone to ensure your security system is not impacted.

  • How many numbers can I have for my home?

GigabitNow Telephone subscribers can have as many additional phone numbers as they desire. You can add phone numbers to your service via the online signup pages. However, there is a limitation on the number of lines, or separate connections, an ATA can support.

  • Can I go back to another provider if I don’t like GigabitNow telephone?

Yes, however, there may be delays in moving to another service provider if you wish to transport your phone number. In addition, your internal wiring may have been altered if you opted for professional setup and may require your new provider to make a service call to your home to reactivate your service.

  • What is VoIP?

VoIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol. This is the process of using the Internet to transmit and receive telephone calls. Unlike traditional phone service that uses a central office, telephone poles and actual wires dedicated to your home or business telephone service. VoIP runs over the Internet. VoIP utilizes your internal network and not telephone lines.

  • How do I check my Voicemail?

From anywhere, you can access your voicemail remotely just call your 10-digit phone number, press #, enter the 4-digit PIN, and then press 1. In addition, you can login to your online control panel and check via the Internet where you can configure your Voicemail to be emailed to you.

  • How do I change the number of rings before going to Voicemail?

From the online control panel, select ‘Call Handling’ then select ‘Scheduling’. You are then able to set the seconds before a call goes to Voicemail. There are advanced configuration options available under ‘Call Screening’.

  • How do I use the service features?

Please refer to gbnow.net/PhonePortal for detailed instructions on how to use each service feature.

  • Some of the GigabitNow Voice features don’t work for me, why?

Some of GigabitNow’s Telephone service with more advanced features require compatible phones in the home. Your phone equipment may not be compatible with the service in question. Check your phone manufacturer to see if the feature you want to use will work with your equipment.

  • Will my phone work during a power outage?

Your service depends on power to your home gateway. If power is off to that unit your phone service will not work. If your home does not have power it is likely your GigabitNow gateway does not either and you would be without phone service. This will also disable 911 calling. There are battery backup units available for your GigabitNow Telephone gateway that can be purchased and installed to help in the case of a short disruption of power. Please contact customer service if you interested in this option at support@gigabitnow.com.

  • Can I dial 911?

Yes, you can dial 911. The information that the 911 operators receive is what you have provided for us to configure on your service. If you need to change this information, contact GigabitNow Support. If power is out in your home and your gateway is off, the phone service will not work for 911. For more information on 911 service conditions and related information please review the 911 section in the GigabitNow Telephone Terms and Conditions.

  • How does 911 know where I am?

In order for your 911/E911 calls to be properly directed to emergency services, GigabitNow Placentia Telephone must have your correct premises address. This is the address you entered at the time of order for your 911 emergency address. If you move the service to a different address with GigabitNow Placentia Telephone’s approval, 911/E911 calls may be directed to the wrong emergency authority, may transmit the wrong address, and/or GigabitNow Placentia Telephone (including 911/E911) may fail altogether. If you need to change this information GigabitNow Placentia Telephone will need several business days to update your premises address in the E911 system so that your 911/E911 calls can be properly directed. Please note GigabitNow Telephone does not provide PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) or any emergency services under any circumstances. Please refer to the GigabitNow Telephone Terms and Conditions for more details.

  • Does GigabitNow Placentia Telephone service use my Internet connection?

Yes. Unlike other telephone service providers, our GigabitNow Placentia Telephone service is delivered to your home via the fiber network, prioritized over regular Internet bandwidth. This means that your usage of the Internet does not affect voice quality of your call. It does not utilize the fiber that makes up the GigabitNow Placentia network system.

  • What if I make a long-distance call and no one answers, will I be charged?

Generally, billing begins when the call is answered by the called party or an automated answering device (such as an answering machine or fax machine); it ends when one of the parties disconnects the call. However, some providers (e.g. those involved in calls to foreign countries) charge for a completed call when the called party’s line rings or after a certain number of rings. If such a provider charges GigabitNow Placentia Telephone, its affiliates, or suppliers as if your call were answered by the called party, GigabitNow Placentia Telephone will charge you for a completed call.

  • How often do international rates change?

GigabitNow Telephone international calling rates change many times a month as worldwide regulation of rates is not universal. You can see the latest updated rates and when they were last updated on the international rate page.

Detailed information about your calls and charges is available via the GigabitNow Placentia Telephone online control panel. This means that if a bill is left past due for more than 40 days the phone number(s) you have associated with your GigabitNow Placentia Telephone account could be permanently lost as GigabitNow Placentia will not continue to pay for a number on a delinquent account.

Troubleshooting

  • My computer is running slowly; how do I make it run faster?

There are some simple things that you can easily do at home to boost your computer’s performance.

Clear your cookies and cache. This action cleans out your computer’s temporary Internet files and will help it to run at its full potential. Clearing the computer’s cache could also help to speed up your web surfing experience. Learn how to clear your cookies and cache

Defragment your hard drive. The more you install/uninstall programs, download, move or copy files, the more fragmented your hard drive will become. To help fix this issue open up your Start menu, type in Defrag and hit the Enter key. Click on Optimize and let it run. This could take a while.

Backup or remove unnecessary files like music, videos and pictures as these can take up more space on your hard drive than other files.

Caution: Be very sure of what the files are and what they do before you delete them. Deleting necessary program files can cause software or your computer to no longer function properly.

Uninstall programs and applications you no longer use. Some of the programs that you do not use can run in the background using up needed resources like your memory or diskspace.

  • How can I improve my Internet speed?

There are some easy things you can try that will improve fiber Internet speed. The best way is to understand your connection type and what you should expect for your Internet speeds. Learn more about your connection and speeds.

    1. To allow for a better signal, move Wi-Fi devices closer to your gateway but not closer than 4 feet. The farther your device is from the gateway the more your signal strength weak and your speeds slow.

    2. Only use Wi-Fi for devices that do not have wired connection ports, such as, smartphones, tablets and home assistants. Connect all other devices directly to the router. Direct connections provide faster speeds and free-up wireless bandwidth.

Place your wireless router in a central location in your home. Depending on your homes design, your gateway may not reach certain areas so try some of these options for a better signal:

    • Place your wireless router in a central location so that it is upright and on an elevated surface.
    • The front of the wireless router should face the space where most of the devices in the home will be in use.
    • The wireless router should be at least 10 feet from cordless phones, Bluetooth devices and microwave ovens.
    • The wireless router should be away from heat sources, moisture, excessive dust, extreme cold and large metal objects.

4.Disable or turn off Wi-Fi devices that are not in use. Smart devices can have apps running in the background that are utilizing bandwidth.

    5. Update firmware and drivers. Improve your connection by running the latest software updates and device drivers. Windows provides most driver updates automatically in Windows Update. You can also visit your network card or device manufacturer’s website to look for a Support or Driver link.

    6. You can add a Wi-Fi extender to improve coverage and signal strength throughout your home.

  • What is IPv6?

Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the latest version of the Internet Protocol (IP). Every device which utilizes the Internet has a unique identifier known as an IP address. The unique address is a way for each device to locate and communicate to other Internet-connected devices.

IPv4 structure has been the IP standard for years. This is limited to around 4 billion usable addresses globally. Due to expansive growth with The Internet of Things (IoT), IPv6 was developed to replace IPv4. Unlike IPv4, IPv6 has more than enough addresses allowing for plenty of Internet growth into the future and beyond.

IPv4 has co-existed with IPv6 for years. There are several methods used to manage and extend the existing infrastructure:

Dual Stag: IPv4 and IPv6 can co-exist in the same devices and networks.

Tunneling: IPv6 packets are transmitted over IPv4 infrastructure and vice versa.

Translation: IPv6-only devices can communicate with IPv4-only devices.

As IPv6 is rolled-out over the next several years there will not be any impact to your GigabitNow Placentia Fiber Internet service.

    IPv6 Compatible Operating Systems

Most currently supported operating systems support IPv6, including:

    Microsoft (PC)

    • Windows XP Service Pack 3 and above
    • Windows Vista
    • Windows 7
    • Windows 8.x
    • Windows 10

    Apple (Mac)

    • macOS 10.7 and above
    • iOS 9.0 and above
